Why is modern man unhappy

With each passing day, we often read or hear about increasing mental depression in today's youth. This mental illness is one of the major underlying reason for an array of health maladies such as cardiac issues, hypertension, diabetes and gut related issues. Now lets decipher the reasons why today's human is so unhappy and disatisfied from within. Don't go by those images and videos you see on Instagram or other social networks. People are now highly insecure due to low self esteem issues that sprouts due to wrong perception of lives of others'. Most people have this notion that life of modern man is indeed difficult that his ancestors. This can't be farther away from truth. When we compare our lives to our ancestors that the challenges faced by our ancestors weren't any less than ours, just a little different. I like to simplify it by saying that they had to face their trials and tribulations against the physical phenomenons and our challenges are within us. T...

Anarchy ~Precursor to a change

As soon as we hear the term Anarchy, we imagine a section of people of society having utter disregard for societal rules and norms. But truth be told, this definition doesn't give us a microscopic view of it. Humans have always feared change. Be it in the form of technological advancements or religious reforms. And this happens partly due to our own ignorance. An interesting point to be noted is that people whom we call as reformers, inventors, discoverers had this special quality about them to look at things with a different perspective. Most of them were severely chastisised, reprimanded or rebuked at first.  But they didn't budge of their beliefs and ideas just because society couldn't understand their iconoclastic beliefs and ideas. Change always seems difficult to people initially but we begin to appreciate it once it takes place.

The Importance of Fighting

Before Everyone gets startled by the title, I would like to say that this post isn't meant to promote any kind of violence. Most of us associate fighting with some sort of punching, kicking, beating the crap outta each other kinda things. But these analogies shouldn't limit the actual terminology. Each one of us is fighting everyday. Some are fighting external stimuli but most of us are fighting something within. It is only those people who are able to conquer the enemies within are able to make something out of their lives while the rest remain the "could've been or should've been "kind. The external enemies that a person can have are of varied types; ranging from humans, physical handicaps to family situations. But the internal enemies all of us have are in a way similar. Some of which are fear, anger, lack of confidence,  sloth etc.  It is these inner enemies which we have to overcome. There is a battle going inside all of us against all these forces. Peopl...

Rationale behind Watching MMA and Boxing?

Image
Though all humans over the world talk about peace and harmony, there is a part of us that just loves watching gory sports such as MMA or Boxing.  In the past decade or so, the popularity of Boxing has declined considerably but that is because another sport such as MMA has taken its place. MMA stands for mixed martial arts. MMA includes fighters trained in multiple combat styles such as Jujitsu, Muay Thai , Kick Boxing etc.  The fights of MMA draws people in millions. But why do humans enjoy two men/women inflicting pain on each other, drawing blood streams by bashing fists on their face, breaking each others' bones? Why? The answer to this isn't as simple as it seems. I pondered over this question for some time and came to conclusion that there is no particular single reason for this but a multitude of reasons. Let us explore a few of them. Though all sports celebrate competitiveness yet raw competition akin to survival is only the underlying theme of combat sports. Chances of...

CRISPR Cas 9: A step towards mutants?

Image
As a child I watched and loved the X-Men series of films and would often think of humans could possess supernatural powers by having certain changes in their cell structure. Well, we are no where near developing humans with supernatural powers, Yet genetic engineering has made some great technological advancements that can be a boon for humanity. One of these is CRISPR. CRISPR is a technology that has been developed to edit genes ! Yup, you heard it right. The essence of CRISPR is simple: it’s a way of finding a specific bit of DNA inside a cell. After that, the next step in CRISPR gene editing is usually to alter that piece of DNA. However, CRISPR has also been adapted to do other things too, such as turning genes on or off without altering their sequence. There were ways to edit the genomes of some plants and animals before the CRISPR method was unveiled in 2012 but it took years and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. CRISPR has made it cheap and easy. Use of CRISPR is already wi...

Post Covid World - Dawn of a New Age

Image
Just like human life was never the same after the two world wars or even the great depression, life post Covid would never be the same. Even the 2008 global recession pales in comparison to this pandemic faced all over the world. I would like to share my insights of how life post covid can turn out to be. One thing that none of us can deny is that the govt. investment on health care services is going to increase by leaps and bounds. Covid has shown that inspite of tremendous development in science and technology, humans at large are fragile beings. So, the healthcare industry needs to keep itself a step ahead and well prepared of maladies akin to Covid that might crop up in the future. The importance of having a sound health insurance is clearly highlighted in today's scenario. A famous singer passed away a few days back due to Covid complications. His hospital bill amounted to a massive Rs 3 crores ($ 400,000). So, people who ignored the insurance of a good health cover are clearl...

Nepotism : A perspective

Image
Though Nepotism has existed since time immemorial in the form of monarchy where apparent heirs to the throne were the children of the king, the official word "Nepotism"was coined somewhere around the 14th or 15th century A.D. From credible sources, it can be ascertained that the priests in churches would often leave their wealth and resources at the disposal of their nephews. Later the word was used for every practice related to favouring one's own kith and kin for any position. Over the years, we have seen that the Indian film industry Aka Bollywood has been targeted for promoting Nepotism. The untimely death of actor Sushant Singh further aggravated this already incensing issue. But the truth remains that Nepotism is not limited to the film industry, it encompasses Indian politics, corporate culture and virtually every industry one can imagine. It is ingrained in cultures where relationships of blood are valued over ethics and morality. Even Donald Trump, the Ame...
