Why is modern man unhappy

With each passing day, we often read or hear about increasing mental depression in today's youth. This mental illness is one of the major underlying reason for an array of health maladies such as cardiac issues, hypertension, diabetes and gut related issues. Now lets decipher the reasons why today's human is so unhappy and disatisfied from within. Don't go by those images and videos you see on Instagram or other social networks. People are now highly insecure due to low self esteem issues that sprouts due to wrong perception of lives of others'. Most people have this notion that life of modern man is indeed difficult that his ancestors. This can't be farther away from truth.

When we compare our lives to our ancestors that the challenges faced by our ancestors weren't any less than ours, just a little different.

I like to simplify it by saying that they had to face their trials and tribulations against the physical phenomenons and our challenges are within us.

Thankfully we don't have too many famines, water shortages, hypothermia related deaths and war fatalities. Yet we are unhappy due to moving away from our true nature of joy.

We strive to fulfill society's expectation, endlessly compare ourselves to our friends, colleagues. We don't see the other side of the picture. The people most of us idolise such as sportstars, ,actors, businessmen, politicians etc. have had their fair share of struglle. Instead we either get too much in awe of them or start envying them. Live isn't easy as we expect it to be by looking at social media accounts of public figures.

The hardwork, pain, sweat just gets hidden behind those flashy pictures. Also we are unable to realise that all happiness that we seek is already within us. Seeking it in external world is just a waste of time and effort. True joy only sprouts from within and does't have any reason. Coz anything that makes you happy for a reason would also make you unhappy in its absence.

Also till we spart comparing our lives with others', we won't ever be happy or at peace. We want all 'good things' that people around us possess. We push ourselves to achieve thos things. If we get them, we have new goals in sight and if we aren't we get unhappy. Ultimately we lose our peace of mind.

We should instead cultivate a sense of originality about us not just trying to be reactive to society around us. Cultivating a sense of individuality and not comparing our lives to others is highly important in this regard. We should appreciate our own uniqueness and instead do things that truly make us happy instead of trying to fit in.

Atleast 30-40 mins of lone time be it in the form of meditation or a personal prayer in solitude would do wonders for us. The mere realisation that you are the imperishable soul beyond all this facade would rip us of all unhappiness and ignorance. Kindness, compassion, simplicity is highly appreciated.

Finding happiness in small things in life is what really makes life worth living. Each and every moment should be cherished for we dont' know how much time we have on this planet.

Every moment lived fully is truly a life that we all should strive for without a need to dwell on the past or worry about future..
